This year, we gave five scholarships to graduates from Whitewright High School. We started this last year for Pierce's graduating class. After all, since Pierce's suicide, we don't have to pay for his college, so we want to help other's pay for their college or trade after high school graduation.
The scholarships from last year were:
'Bobby Pierce Forest Memorial Scholarship' given to someone going into the automobile trade (mechanic, paint & body, etc) since cars were his passion.
'Mr. Kevin Weaver Memorial Scholarship' (in honor of Pierce's principal who passed away the day of the awards ceremony after a 8 year battle with cancer), given to a student pursuing a career in the medical field; 'The George W. Bush Scholarship' given to a student who is joining the armed services; 'The Pierce Remodeling Group Scholarship' given to a student pursuing a career in a trade such as plumbing, electrical, etc. since we know there is more than one way to success besides college; and the 'Mrs. Sadler Scholarship' given in honor of Pierce's favorite teacher, his culinary arts teacher, so it was given to a student pursing a culinary arts degree.
This year, we did the same, but Pierce's scholarship went to a student who, out of her love and friendship for our son, unknowingly became an advocate for suicide awareness. We gave two in honor of Mr. Weaver since Mrs. Sadler retired and we changed the George W Bush to the Donald J Trump in honor of our new president.
Since we were on vacation, I was not able to attend and present the awards personally, but I know 3 of the 5 recipients and am honored to give have them receive the scholarships.
