It's interesting, that for the first year without Pierce, I marked every anniversary date, starting at 1 month through the 1 year mark. After that, I didn't for some reason. And now today, a memory popped up on Facebook that a year ago today, we met Bryant, Pierce's lung recipient. It also fell on the 11 month mark since his passing.
Even when I shared the memory, it didn't immediately dawn on me that today marks 23 months since he took his life.
Yes, I'm still VERY aware that his birthday is at the end of this week.
Birthdays were always a big deal in our house. How could they not be? Thats the day you met your person! I always wrapped the kids bedroom door for them and taped the cards they received to the door. Each one had their own special plate that I made for them to eat off of for the day. They got to choose a favorite meal that I would make for them for the family dinner and on the actual night of their birthday, we'd go to their favorite restaurant. And when they were young, there were always the kid parties.
One of Pierce's favorites was in our back yard and the kids dressed in camp and we had marshmallow guns for them to compete with, along with archery and other obstacle courses.
